LAN PARTY Report

Written by andy on Sunday, July 27th, 2003 in GamersCircle.

Yet another LAN party has come and gone. This was a smaller one, only six people versus the huge 9 person that we had last month. The go around we had me, Tone, Rob & son, Mike and Brian.

I think I am really starting to get the hang of this. Sure, we had a small black out, but the problem was addressed and there wasn’t any problems after that.

This time we had a pretty cool setup for multimedia. It was mainly for the movie watching, but instead of just the 60″ Sony, I also added a 27″ next to it, and what was left of the wall. I used an Infocus projector and put the movie up there as well. It worked out nicely I thought.

Tone won the GamersCircle trivia contest. There was only six trivia questions, all about GamersCircle. It was more of a test to see whom has actually visited the old gag.NET web site.

There was also a raffle too, where a $3 buy in gave you a chance to when a pair of Logitech® Premium USB Headset 300, Brian had the lucky ticket this time around.

There was some major gaming, we had a Broodwar game from hell. Two of us got rooted and had to relocate, and it was just a matter of time, but we made a come back and conquered. There was a couple of pretty good Rise of Nations games, we also played a ton of Battle Field 1942 with the DesertCombat mod, playing mainly on the Wake Island and Omaha Beach maps. I also passed out copies of Star Wars Galaxies, all rolled up charactes and we had us some hunting “Star Wars” style. Everyone seemed to like it

There was tons of food, drink and snack for all.

Been a little busy, lack of blogs

Sorry that I haven’t been around. I am taking a couple of days off from work this week to get ready and play “hard” in this weekends LAN PARTY.

Newz Crawler or Feed Demon?

Written by andy on Saturday, July 19th, 2003 in Software.

About 5 months ago, I sent an email to Chris Pirillo asking him about news readers that supported blogging. He pointed me to Newz Crawler. They have a demo, so I tried it and it worked great. The “Blog This” most likely works real well for those that use Blogger for thier journals, but I use b2 and there isn’t a whole lot of 3rd party support out there for it.

Later I came across Nick Bradbury’s FeedDemon (which is currently in beta) and this is a slick little gem. Easy to use, simply UI and it works.

This left me in somewhat of a slight delima, as I own NewzCrawler and Feeddemon doesn’t have a “Blog This” option yet.

I found my answer though, in combination with FeedDemon and w.bloggar. My posting days are pretty easy now.

LXG, KOTOR and Mozzila Firebird

Written by andy on Friday, July 18th, 2003 in General.

I finally got around to seeing Sean Connery and company in LXG. Pretty darn good adventure film, I like the characters. I thought that there were a couple of “over the top” scenes, but I suppose that is what you have to do in an adventure film. Right?

As I mentioned, I picked up the Knights of the Old Repulic which is currently an Xbox only Star Wars RPG game. So far, I am a duel sword dealing 3rd level good guy whom is strutting around in some sith armor. More later as I progress.

I know that currently Microsoft’s Internet Explorer has the market web browsers, but there still is a war brewing. I have downloaded and have been giving Mozilla Firebird a test run. So far so good.

Slow news day…

Written by andy on Thursday, July 17th, 2003 in General.

It was hard to locate news to post today. There was a little light at the end of the tunnel though, and I was able to get something online.

Most likely what was even more difficult. Was locating a store that had a copy of StarWars: Knights of the Old Republic. I called 3 GameStops, 2 Electronic Boutiques to finally find one that had 3 left and they wouldn’t hold it for me. By time I got there, there was only the one left.

SCORE!!

It seems that I have a lot to do before the weekend if over and the next week starts. I am attempting to migrate my common everyday posting utilities and news bots from my old P4 2.8 system to my new P4 3.0 HT system. Then I will be whiping the system and getting it ready for the LAN PARTY on the 25th.
