Free Comic Book Day ??

Written by andy on Saturday, May 6th, 2006 in General.

Today was Free Comic Book Day all over the place. This was my first time going. I never went to any of the others because the close comic book store to me is about 45min away, so to drive that, there and back just didn’t add up in book.

I think that this is a great idea, helps to keep one of my childhood past time alive and kicking, good to see the turn out of all the next wave of comic book readers and collectors pouring into the stores and just sucking it up.

I am not sure how other store are doing this FCBD, but you were allowed to take 2 free comics from what was out on the table and if you were lucky enough to ‘ask’ for it, you would get the exclusive STARGATE SG-1 General Jack O’Neill (T-shirt) action figure.

That was it? Just a couple of free comic books? No artists, no writers, no contests? Yikes!

As it turns out, perhaps Stan Lee has a new idea to help along the trade. He is part of a new reality series coming out looking for a new Super Hero:

The creator of Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk is on the hunt for a new superhero, and he plans to find it on reality TV.

Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee said Friday that his new reality show “Who Wants to be a Superhero?” breaks new ground.

“I’ve never lived in a world of reality,” quipped the 83-year-old writer. Eleven wannabe superheros â?? whittled down from 200 â?? are set to compete in the show, which is scheduled to premiere July 26 on the Sci-Fi channel.

The winning superhero will be the star of a new comic book created by Lee. The reported catch-phrase for those who don’t make the cut? “Turn in your spandex!”

Update: Now this is how Free Comic Book Day could be done.
