Comics for the last couple of weeks – Part 2

Written by andy on Sunday, May 7th, 2006 in General.

In between some BF2 and SG-1 Season 1 I was able to put this together.

Sensational Spider-Man #25 – Man-Wold, Vermin, Iron Men Security, Aunt May shows that she isn’t feeble minded when it comes to computers and security systems.

New Avengers #18 – The new team team isn’t quite the team that we are use to seeing, the heroes take turns rather than working together. First Iron Man, then Ms. Marvel, then Sentry fight. Why didn’t the team leader [Capt. America take charge and starting barking orders?] Ah, but a couple (Wolverine and Ms. Marvel) got it together when he tries to help her get her get it together after slightly loosing it. Also, it would appear that Tony doesnt have exclusive control over Iron Man’s armor, but wonder how that might play in the upcoming Civil War.

Invincible Iron Man #7 – This issue doesn’t carry the road to civil war tag on it like some of the spiderman and fantastic four comics currently do, but some of the interaction between iron man and captain america seems more important for the civil war storyline that virtually anything else i’ve read to this point. if you plan on following the civil war storyline this is a comic you will definetly want to add to your collection

Four #29 – Part 1 (of 2) Fantastic Enterprises is ready to go public, and to mark the occasion the FF agrees to an outrageous publicity stunt: Drafting an honorary fifth member to join their team. Ten young super-heroes “compete” for the spot, but only nine of them have honorable intentions. Number Ten will stop at nothing to win–and to get his or her hands on the secrets of the Fantastic Four.

The Incredible Hulk #94 – There are a lot of moments taking place in this issue, from the quiet to the barbaric, I can’t wait for the next issue. Things really move at a quick pace and when the final page hits, introducing next issue’s guest star, it is with a very satisfied feeling.

Comics for the last couple of weeks – Part 1

Written by andy on Sunday, May 7th, 2006 in General.

The last couple of weeks have been nuts for me, but with luck I will be able to get back on track; however I did have time to read some funnies:

Marvel Team-Up #20 – Captain America is thrust into a fight for his life at the hands of AIM. Meanwhile an all-new hero is introduced into the Marvel Universe, but is the world ready for FREEDOM RING? And what does all this have to do with a reality-altering ring crafted from broken shards of the cosmic cube?

Y The Last Man #45 – Do not miss this issue, the group has finally tracked down Ampersand (the monkey), but he’s not going to be easy to get. You just might say it would be damn near impossible mission (plug for MI:III) to get him from where he’s at. But 355 and their new ally (some chick that makes robots that make women happy) whom calls herself ‘You’ [me?], gone something going on in the form of a plan.

Astonishing X-Men #14 – What the hell was Whedon thinking? If I wanted to see a soap opera, I would have Tivo’d “Days of our Lives”; Astonishing X-Men #14 is also an issue about relationships. We are witness to the delayed blossoming of the love between Kitty and Piotr (which leads to several amusing scenes) and the clandestine organization known as S.W.O.R.D. finally has a face to their enemy. But at it’s core, this issue is an exploration of who Cyclops really is. To most, Cyclops is just some stuck-up loser who is nothing without his team and now, we find out why he’s like that; we find out that who he is was the result of a choice he had to make — It’s not always easy and it’s not what he really wants for himself but he’s sticking by it, which actually makes me respect the guy more.

New Avengers Ann. #1 – The Avengers Tower becomes the ultimate battleground as the New Avengers are targeted by one of their most fiercest new enemies yet. The all new ADAPTOID has come to take them down… and wait till you see who it is, hey not to mention – An avenger gets married too!!!

Invincible #31 – Mark talks his mom into baby sitting his new brother… and more…

Stargate SG-1: Season 1—Pilot Episode #1

Written by andy on Sunday, May 7th, 2006 in TV.

I went to Best Buy yesterday since I had a $20 rewards card and a $50 rebate that was burning a hole is my pocket. I opt’d to pick up Season One of Stargate SG-1.

What seemed like an extremely long ’so so’ sequel of Stargate attempts to pick up the story line a few years after the movie’s timeline ends. Colonel Jack O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson replacing Kurt Russell) and his team return to Chulak, bringing anthropologist Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks in the James Spader role) back for all-new adventures. In the process, the Stargate SG-1 team (now part of a larger Stargate Command organization) discover an unexpected ally in Teal’c (Christopher Judge), a Goa’uld guard who chooses to join the SG-1 team to fight for his people’s freedom.

This pilot episode is list most starting series’, establishing the basic premise along with the character chemistry (what was a shocker was that there was some full-frontal nudity.) There was a “MacGuyver” joke which of course poked fun at Richard Dean Anderson, and former slave Skaara is again portrayed by Alexis Cruz, the only member of the movie cast to turn up in the series. The special effects are pretty good over all I look forward to the rest of the series.
