Planet of the Apes TV Series

Written by andy on Monday, May 15th, 2006 in TV.

Monkey see, Andy watch:

Wow, that was a whole lot of chimps and apes alright.

March 21, 3085. Two astronauts land on a strange planet run by apes with human characteristics, including the very savagery that brought the decline of the human race. The astronauts arrived here by traveling through a time warp and after a short stay they realize they are actually stranded on their own planet, Earth, several years in the future. Roddy McDowall returns from the successful films as the star of this television series which had a very short life of 14 episodes which ended, but with no real ending, they just paddled away in the ocean on a raft.

Colonel Alan Virdon is the commander of the ANSA space mission that strands two astronauts together ( a third did not survive) on Earth over 1000 years into the future. Virdon, the consumate family man, is driven by the need to return home to his wife and son. His sense of responsibility extends to his second-in-command.

Peter Burke is the other astronaut that survived the crash landing. Endowed with a dry wit and a practical, frequently pessimistic nature, the self-proclaimed “ladies man” is impulsive and sarcastic, yet courageous in the face of danger. Burke’s hot-headed temperment frequently lands him into trouble but is balanced by a sense of humor and an innate kindness buried beneath the bravado. He follows Virdon on his quest out of fierce loyalty and a strong sense of duty along with their their new-found simian friend, Galen.

I think my favorite episode was “The Trap”, mainly because it was on a set of a busted up town that has a second set with the subway system where Urko and Burke had to work together to get out before their air supply ran out.

The series was enjoyable to watch as I had not seen every episode and was shocked to know that there was 14 episodes too. The series is in ‘full screen’ which is okay, I know alot of the older shows will be like that and it doesn’t really bother me, but the audio transfer wasn’t done that well as I had to crank up the volume.

Stargate to Apes

Written by andy on Monday, May 15th, 2006 in TV.

I just got through watching season 2 of Stargate SG-1:

Finally got to meet Thor , but he wasn’t what I expected. (laugh) I think that perhaps my favorite episode was “1969“, where through a solar flare, the SG-1 team are propelled back in time to 1969, landing in a top-secret military facility.

Carrying a letter General Hammond gave her, Carter is searched by a young Lieutenant who is astonished by the letter’s contents. As the team is transported for further interrogations, the Lieutenant helps them escape and tells them the letter appeared to be from him many years in the future. Desperate to find the Stargate so they can return to the present, the team seeks out Catherine, who they believe may know its location. Hitchhiking to see her in New York, they are picked up by Michael and Jenny, two friendly flower children on their way to Woodstock. They immediately warm to the team’s fugitive appearance.

Carter discovers that Hammond’s note includes the date of the next solar flare and they race to the Stargate before their chance of leaving the past is lost for good.

So, now I am going to take a break from Sci-FI (can’t believe I just wrote that) and watch more of the ape collection that I started a couple of days ago. With all of the major movies done, we have the television series next.
