Re-Read Ultimate FF #21, 22 & 23

Written by andy on Tuesday, May 16th, 2006 in General.

Last night I pulled out my copies of Ultimate Fantastic Four #21:

Mark Millar returns to the Ultimate FF and a lot of amazing things take place – but nothing will prepare them for the world they’re about to enter! Reed Richards has used his scientific genius to contact an Earth in a surprisingly familiar parallel dimension – and he’s ready to visit, but is he?

I just couldn’t stop with the above issue, so I quickly untapped Ultimate Fantastic Four #22 too and -

It just gets better and better, which brings us to the next issues where Reed finds he has been baited into a trap, but it should be said that Millar constantly spins one surprise after another at the reader, touching on a host of Marvels heroes and villains along the way. As far-fetched and overused as alternate-reality plots have become (isn??t the whole Ultimate line its own alternate reality of sorts?), Millar makes this one work. He paints Reed as searching for a purpose beyond scientific discovery, but also saddles him with the hubris of youth. Lands art is, as expected, a pleasure, except for several instances where the panels seem blurred or faces are obscured by shading that is perhaps a bit too real.

On an world they never thought they??d visit, the fledgling F.F. find themselves hunted by the strangest enemies imaginable. And only one man can offer them salvation the mutant master of magnetism Magneto! The first truly exciting UFF story arc comes to a close with high-action and a showdown between the Thing and the Hulk.

I have been Promoted, Sir! Yes Sir!

Today in BF2 I got enough points and finally made Staff Sergeant. With this upgrade in rank, I unlocked the L85A1 which contrary to popular belief, is not the most accurate assault rifle. It has the least accurate rapid-fire/full auto assault performance, and the worst prone benefit. However, the scope allows players to place shots better at medium to long range when fired in semi-automatic mode, making it functionally more accurate for some. It does a bit more damage than the M16A2 (but still requires 4 hits to kill a healthy target), and the scope is useful for spotting as well as good shot placement, making the L85 a very desirable unlock.

I also got to unlock another weapon so I thought of upgrading my sniper rifle (which I am terrible at, but getting better) from the M95 to the L96A1 which is apt to become the most beloved sniper rifle in the assortment. While EA/DICE tries to sell their expansions as balanced with the original game, this gun is clearly a cut above the rest. Take together the best of the M24 and M95 and you’ll end up with the L96A1. It has the same firepower as the M24 and M95, these rifles will reduce the health with 95% of a full health soldier in a single shot. On top of that, the L96A1 is together with the M24 the most accurate weapon in the game. But it overpowers the M24 because of its load time which is equal to the M95.

It was rumoured that this gun would instant kill with one shot, but this is not true. It was supposedly the case while the 1.2 patch was in beta, just like the M95 and the M24, but for obvious reasons this was changed for the official release.

While the personal preference of a sniper will decide between the L96A1 and the M24, the L96A1 is clearly a better choice than the Type 88 or SVD. The M95?

Netflix saved me again with – ‘Waiting’

Written by andy on Tuesday, May 16th, 2006 in TV.

Upon his arrival at Shenaniganz, a suburban chain restaurant bedecked with decorative knick-knacks, new wait staff trainee Mitch (John Francis Daley) is placed under the wing of Monty (Ryan Reynolds), a veteran who first informs his young charge that all male employees engage in a game in which the object is to get others to unwittingly look at your genitals. Unwittingly, Mitch has stumbled into a world where servers–such as angry Naomi (Alana Ubach), and coquettish Serena (Anna Faris), along with a rowdy kitchen staff–led by randy Raddimus (Luis Guzman)–are at constant war with their demanding, low-tipping customers. Meanwhile, waiter Dean (Justin Long) must decide whether to take a promotion to manager or set out for brighter horizons beyond birthday songs and whimsically-named appetizers.

If you have kids, do not watch this with them around, there some slight nudity and a great deal of “F” bomb, the movie does have a couple of moments.

1.) The ‘customer from hell’ scene where they food had to go back as “she” was not happy at all with it, I will not attempt to descibe what was done, but it made me squirm in my chair.

2.) The bus boys and thier “wanna be hommie” jibber jabber was amusing as well.

Needless to say, this will not be added to my DVD collection, but I do think that John Francis Daley character in Blade Trinity (another movie on my list) is pretty good, more on that when I get to it.
