Over the Hedge: Review

Written by andy on Saturday, May 20th, 2006 in Movies.

Competition in the category for best supporting actor in Over The Hedge is tight. Steve Carell’s large-eyed, childlike squirrel, Hammy, is among the funniest, most lovable critters to ever scamper across a screen. William Shatner is gloriously hammy as Ozzie the play-dead-at-every-opportunity possum. The movie’s funny voice performances extend throughout the cast.

As threatening as Vincent the bear is, humans are the animals’ biggest threats. Gladys (Allison Janney), the controlling president of the new subdivision’s homeowners association, and Dwayne (Thomas Haden Church), a strutting exterminator, are prime sources for Over The Hedge’s laser-guided satire.

Like any exceptional art, Over The Hedge entertains on multiple levels. It’s got cute, funny animals for the kids plus high-flying stunts and adventure. The movie’s humor, performances and satire engages adults. There’s something for everyone over this hedge.

I do think that I saw my friends ‘Rot’ whom would appear to have had a cameo as “Nugent” the Dog which has only 2 modes, “Play” and “PLAY”

Issue 7 to hit the servers before the end of May

Boomtown has a very informative interview up:

Speaking of speed bumps, why was Issue 7 delayed?
We had lots of technical problems. It was a nightmare getting Recluse’s Victory and the Mayhem Missions bug free. We also lost a writer in the middle of the process and we had to get the AGEIA PhysX working. However, both Recluse’s Victory and the Mayhem Missions ended up being way better than I had thought they’d be. The designer of the Mayhem Missions actually took time of his own to make them cooler, which resulted in a few cool bugs, too (laughs). That being said, I expect Issue 7 to hit the servers before the end of May.

Can you tell us anything about Issue 9?
Issue 9 will include a rebuild of a couple of City of Heroes zones of which one is getting a major face lift. I can give you a hint though – it’s the one “we never play” (Faultline, -ed). We’ll also open a City of Heroes zone for villains.
