Over the Hedge: Review

Competition in the category for best supporting actor in Over The Hedge is tight. Steve Carell’s large-eyed, childlike squirrel, Hammy, is among the funniest, most lovable critters to ever scamper across a screen. William Shatner is gloriously hammy as Ozzie the play-dead-at-every-opportunity possum. The movie’s funny voice performances extend throughout the cast.
As threatening as Vincent the bear is, humans are the animals’ biggest threats. Gladys (Allison Janney), the controlling president of the new subdivision’s homeowners association, and Dwayne (Thomas Haden Church), a strutting exterminator, are prime sources for Over The Hedge’s laser-guided satire.
