H2H – Hydrogen Powered HUMMER

This isnt really ‘breaking news’; however General Motors has adapted a HUMMER H2 SUT to run on hydrogen, and will share it with the office of the Governor of California. The HUMMER H2H will assist efforts to learn more about hydrogen storage and refueling infrastructure development. This experimental vehicle also illustrates how industry and government can collaborate to make fuel cell technology and California’s Hydrogen Highway Network viable.

“The H2H is a bold experiment that along with the Hydrogen Highway Network will help California demonstrate the economic and technical viability of hydrogen,” said Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. “Californians invent the future. The H2H – a HUMMER fueled by hydrogen, with its main tailpipe emission being water vapor – is a vision of the future. This is a learning vehicle that will illustrate how a thriving economy and ecology can co-exist.”

“The H2H was created for two purposes,” said Beth Lowery, GM vice president, Environment & Energy. “It brings focus and attention to the journey to a hydrogen economy, and it will provide GM with key learnings on hydrogen storage, hydrogen delivery systems, and hydrogen refueling infrastructure development.”

The H2H is a HUMMER H2 that has been extensively re-engineered to operate on gaseous hydrogen fuel. The truck uses a supercharged version of the truck’s original Vortec 6000 (6.0-liter V-8) internal combustion engine. The H2H is not intended for production.

Is that a tennis ball or are you just happy to see me?

Earlier this morning, I was doing some routine ‘around’ the house work, when all of sudden I found myself stairing up at the sky and clutching my ankle.

It would seem that I lost my footing and the momentum from what I was doing caused most of my weight to shift and well, the end result was doing some major twister on my right ankle.

X-Men 3 – my $9.50

At the end of X2, Jean Grey was drowned while saving her colleagues. In the Marvel comic, the X-Men are renowned for their high mortality rate, none more so than Jean Grey, who has died three times. Her resurrection as an all-powerful mutant called Phoenix forms one of the plots on hand here, along with an arbitrary selection of other plots, such as a cure for the mutant X-gene, some teen romance and the urgent need to meet a quota of Dell product placement.

While this cure has been discovered, it is where which is a ‘catch’ and Magneto and his band of merry mutant set out to squash ‘this cure’, and the one who carries it, once and for all. Alas, it is up to the X-Men (not Uncanny nor Astonishing) to make their last stand to prevent Magneto from going forth with his plans for mutant domination over humanity.

This is all very interesting stuff. The 3rd movie in this franchise felt rushed and could have used more polish. Okay, you will get your civil war, special effects involving the destruction of the Golden Gate Bridge, volcanic emotions between Jean Grey and Logan, volcanic enmity between Magneto and just about everyone.

There’s no time for character charm in this production as the characters that you come to know and were waiting for more screen time just didn’t happen like some would think.

It was a good movie, those die hard comic book collectors out there will be hitting thier local forums and start thier flaming, but is it really the last stand?
