Battlefield 2: Armored Fury - 1 day review

Written by andy on Tuesday, June 6th, 2006 in Gaming.

Armored Fury content patch doesn’t feature any improvements to the graphics or the engine. It is like breathing a fresh air after to many battles in the desert, seeing green hills of the American heartland is very refreshing.

You can also commandeer civilian vehicles in Armored Fury, though the selection is a bit weird. Considering that the United States is a nation full of sport utility vehicles, there are none in the game. However, you can jump into a muscle car or a big rig. These civilian vehicles aren’t armed, and passengers can’t even shoot from the shotgun position.

At a price tag of $10, I vote for a buy.

New WOW patch coming

Written by andy on Tuesday, June 6th, 2006 in Gaming.

Blizzard has revealed more details of Shadow of the Necropolis update, otherwise known as patch 1.11, for stupidly popular MMORPG World of Warcraft.

Apparently the Scourge is launching a direct attack on Azeroth, causing all kinds of havoc in Azshara, Blasted Lands, Burning Steppes, Eastern Plaguelands, Tanaris and Winterspring.

If you want to defend Azeroth, you’ll need to talk to an Argent Dawn representative, who’ll be able to tell you where your help is most needed. “It is up to you now to become the fire that burns against the cold, the light of hope that prevails beneath the shadow of the necropolis!”.

There’s no word on when the patch is out yet, but you can read more about it over at the official WOW website.

Underworld Unrated Extended Cut - Review

Written by andy on Tuesday, June 6th, 2006 in TV.

Vampire movies aren’t what they used to be. Underworld, from first time director Len Wiseman, is an example of a vampire movie for the new century - stylish, gothic, gory, and loud and we are in the middle of a very old war between the vampires and the werewolves.

Underworld starts out with a an action sequence that just keeps on going and never seems to stop. Things eventually settle down and we learn that our heroine is a vampire ‘Selene’, who has pledged her undead life to destroying lycanthropes. She stumbles upon a conspiracy between the vampire leader, Kraven and the werewolf leader, Lucian which involves a human named Michael.

The entire movie is filmed in a metallic monochrome that makes things appear depressingly dreary. The look is a combination of Blade and some S&M movie. However; the movie looks sufficiently offbeat to be interesting, although the muted colors and lack of anything resembling bright light becomes a little wearisome.

If the movie had been shorter, it would have been more fun. As it is, there are dead stretches in the middle where it seems to be spinning its wheels. The big battle at the end was great!

Those of you that saw the first Blade movie felt better after the sequels and I am looking forward to the Underworld: Evolution. Underworld captured my attention sporadically and it wasn’t for an Amazon gift card, I would not have bought this movie and would have netflix’d it.
