Yu-Gi-Oh is not your Magic the Gathering game.

Yu-Gi-Oh.jpgWell, first you cannot really compare Yu-Gi-Oh to Magic The Gathering (which is a game that I played heavily when it first came out) on one level; this CCG has aspects that demand quick thinking and a strategy when it comes to developing your deck.  Right off the bat, Yu-Gi-Oh is much faster paced and before you know it you are either the leader or the loser.

On the one hand, you have a fairly complex card game inspired by an extremely complex TV cartoon. (Or the fac that I am just getting to old to play games… err. wrong!!)

The cartoon has many characters with all with magical powers and lots of sub-plots and complicated inter-relationships.

I had the pleasure this weekend of watching JR get trashed by his daughter in what seemed like a blink of the eye, so my ‘tutorial’ seemed to have the life space of a dragon fly.

Then it was my turn to play; at first it would seem that I was holding my own, throwing down traps, spells and monsters, getting in my attacks and defending against Kyla’s beasts of burden, but in the end.

This was a poor example and a futile attempt of a 40+ year old PC gamer trying to play Yu-Gi-Oh against a 13 year old whom had a ton of understanding and patience.  Kyla all the while planned, plotted and executed my demise. (Gah)
