WALTER KOENIG TO UNVEIL “NEW VOYAGES” PREMIER

Walter Koenig, the actor who portrayed the character Pavel Chekov in the original Star Trek series on television and the first seven feature films, will introduce the premier showing of the Star Trek: New Voyages episode “To Serve All My Days” at the Star Trek: 40th Anniversary Gala Celebration & Conference on September 8, 2006. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Star Trek which made its debut on NBC in 1966, the event will be one of excitement, seeing fans from around the world in attendance at the Planet Xpo convention to mark the event.

Koenig has a special interest in the latest “webisode” of the highly acclaimed Internet series. He stars in it, reprising his role as the dashing navigator aboard USS ENTERPRISE. Koenig will be dedicating the premier showing to his favorite charity, Habitat for Humanity. Koenig has taken great pride in his continues role in the Star Trek mythos exclaiming, “Thank you. I have come home again,” when he walked aboard the bridge set of New Voyages.

The premier showing of the anticipated New Voyages episode “To Serve All My Days” will take place at the Planet Xpo Star Trek: 40th Anniversary Gala Celebration & Conference at the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle, Washington, being projected onto their 2½ story high movie screen at the show. “We wanted to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Trek in a very special way at our convention and this premier is just that. You can feel Gene Roddenberry’s presence in every New Voyages episode, and this one is the best yet,” explained Sky Conway, owner of Planet Xpo.

Along with Koenig and Conway at the premier will be James Cawley, creator and producer of Star Trek: New Voyages and the actor who plays James Kirk in the series. Cawley stated, “This episode was like a dream come true for us. We’ve had Trek co-stars in every episode, but never before have we produced an episode with a Trek icon like Walter. To work with him and share in the premier with him on such an important day is unbelievable. I am in awe of how everything has worked out.”

Star Trek: New Voyages first hit the fan realm in 2004 and quickly has become the leading fan production on the Internet, and has nestled itself as a continuing part of Star Trek history and future.  You can see more information on New Voyages by visiting their website at http://www.startreknewvoyages.com.

Planet Xpo conventions has hosted a number of very notable shows and has a production in the works featuring Koenig as well.  Most notably of late was the Jimmy Doohan tribute show “Beam Me Up Scotty…Once last Time” that included Neil Armstrong as their keynote speaker to honor Jimmy…capped off with Doohan’s Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  More information on Planet Xpo can be found at http://www.planetxpo.com.

OpenDNS

Written by andy on Monday, July 10th, 2006 in Software.

Everyone is doing this since phishing is really becoming a problem, so I just setup it up (really super simple) and so far it would appear that I am seeing a difference in page loads. This will add a layer of protection for that person in your family that your spending time educating on Internet security, yet still have to work on their computer on a regular basis. This may save you a trip to clean there computer of something they have picked up while surfing the net.

As claimed on the OpenDNS site, they claim that OpenDNS is safer, faster, smarter and the best part of all it’s free.

Oh my Gawd does the eBay Search bites

Written by andy on Monday, July 10th, 2006 in Software.

For those you that use eBay from time to time or do business on eBay. If you are using thier “My Favorite Searches” I need to know why?

Granted, it is each to setup and you will get email updates; but:

1.) You have to keep extending the seach when the time is up
2.) The timing of the emails are very unpredictable (I would either get them at 3am, 1pm, or 10pm)

Insead, take those same searches using the RSS link (which eBay provides) and plop it into your favorite RSS reader. If you don’t have one, try using Feeddemon, you can use it for the trial period for free or if you don’t mind a web interface you can always use Bloglines which is free.

Why should use the RSS instead?

1.) You inbox will not get filled up with eBay emails from the searches
2.) As often as there are new items added to eBay which match your search and as often as you check your news feed, the new items will show up.

Just give it a try and see if you like it.

Fantastic Four director gives movie update

Written by andy on Monday, July 10th, 2006 in Movies.

Tim Story has given an update about the sequel on his Blog:

I’ve been going crazy prepping this thing. Just got back from Vancouver, which is of course where we will be filming the movie, and things are shaping up. It’s the hard part of the phase where I have to make the ..’s work. Even with 100+ mil, there’s never enough money. Looking at the plan for the new Baxter Building interior and it’s going to be hot. We’re going more high tech and we’re giving Reed Richards and the gang more gadgets this time around. The “4″ logo will be everywhere as we are used to seeing it. They are a corporation now.

I’m going to use some looks that have been inspired from more recent comics, like in “The Ulimate Exstinction” and a little from the “Ultimate Fan Four” series. I know what you’re thinking “Kirby, Kirby, Kirby!” There will be much props given to Kirby throughout the movie.

What I’m really excited about is the Fantasticar. It’s coming guys in all it’s glory. Wait until you see it. It’s going to split in pieces and all that. Johnny and Ben fight over who should fly it. All the fun you expect.
