Star Trek Legacy Update Q&A

Written by andy on Thursday, September 7th, 2006 in Gaming.

FiringSquad recently did an extensive interview for the upcoming Mad Doc Software-Bethesda Softworks space based action-strategy game Star Trek Legacy but with our Star Trek week this week we decided to get a brief update on the game courtesy of Mad Doc associate producer Gary Conti:

FiringSquad: First, it was recently announced that all five Trek TV captains would be contributing to the voice action for Star Trek: Legacy? Was it hard to get all five actors on board for the game?
Gary Conti: It started out as a crazy idea, and at first it was very slow going, but just as we were about to give up, it all came together. Now that it’s over – I can tell you it was completely worth it!

FiringSquad: What was it like working with the actors on their roles? Did it take a while for them to get into character?
Gary Conti: It was fantastic. All five were friendly and professional; it was truly a treat. The sessions went smoothly – they are all so familiar with those characters that they just stepped right into them.

FiringSquad: In the recent Game Informer magazine it was revealed that Trek historical battles might be included as downloadable content. Can you give us an update on those plans?
Gary Conti: No word on that yet, we’re still hard at work here locking the game down, adding a sparkling layer of polish, and practicing our Deathmatch skills so we’ll be unbeatable on Xbox Live when the game ships this fall.

FiringSquad: Can you give us any more info on a possible playable demo for the game and/or mod tools for the PC version?
Gary Conti: We currently don’t plan on releasing a demo for the game, and we can’t give specifics on modding tools yet.

FiringSquad: Finally is there anything else you wish to say about Star Trek: Legacy on this week of Trek’s 40th anniversary?
Gary Conti: We’ll be celebrating this Star Trek milestone at the office this week, but it will be brief, as we’re very close to completion. The end of the wait is near, and we’re excited that people will be playing the game this fall!

Corgi USA, the leading name in die-cast scale models, has acquired the license from Marvel Entertainment, Inc. to produce exclusive high end collectible metal figurines of some of the hottest characters in the comic book world.

Chicago, IL – Corgi USA, the leading name in die-cast scale models, has acquired the license from Marvel Entertainment, Inc. to produce exclusive high end collectible metal figurines of some of the hottest characters in the comic book world.

The initial Marvel line, to be introduced at the American International Toy Fair in February, 2006, will include Spider-Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor as well as other heroes and villains. Unlike the resin-only figures of these characters currently on the market, Corgi’s 1/12th scale (approx. 6″) metal figures will stand the test of time. Produced in very limited quantities, these highly detailed figures will be priced to encourage consumers to collect the complete line. The first figure produced in the series will be exceedingly limited and sure to enhance collectibility.

Each character will be produced in 3D along with alter ego figures and adversarial characters so collectors can build a comprehensive collection.

THE THING prequel on the way

Written by andy on Thursday, September 7th, 2006 in Movies.

Studios have become savvy to the fact that it’s just as profitable to go back as it is to go forward, and it appears the boys at Strike Entertainment—the same company that brought us the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake, SLiTHER, and the forthcoming historical epic 300 (which looks amazing)—feel this is the key ingredient to bring THE THING back to the big screen. Fango has learned that Strike is combing Hollywood for a writer (or writers) to tackle a THING prequel. Since the production house works solely with Universal, which gave us John Carpenter’s classic 1982 THING remake, this is understandable.

The gestation period on a new THING has been a long one. Since Carpenter’s film—starring Kurt Russell, a bevy of amazing character actors and the timeless, inimitable special FX of Rob Bottin—overcame initial critical and public derision to become a modern classic, Universal has pondered just what to do with a property that is ripe for follow-up status. Many have stepped in to lend their two cents, beginning with Dark Horse Comics, which created a miniseries back in the early ’90s that was the next best thing to getting a full-blown cinematic continuation. Then George Clooney flirted with the idea of bringing the original story, “Who Goes There?” (by John W. Campbell), to the small screen in a project similar to the black-and-white FAIL SAFE he executive-produced; then the THING video game came along; then Frank Darabont was attached to a Sci-Fi Channel original movie.
