Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Review

Written by andy on Tuesday, October 31st, 2006 in Gaming.

I picked up this game just about 8 days ago and today I completed the story line and came home the iron clad hero that I started off with.

This is a well-made and accessible action RPG game and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance really goes a good job at emerging you into the Marvel Universe, an incredible feat considering the breadth of the source material. I am sure that we can look forward to another issue of this game as there is just enough holes and not all of the bad guys were apprehended. This is simply a must-have for Marvel fans, though the action itself remains satisfying enough for those in search of a good dungeon crawler to enjoy.

Developers response to BF2142 issues

Written by andy on Tuesday, October 31st, 2006 in Gaming.

EA and Digital Illusions (DICE) have moved to calm concerns about the current state of Battlefield 2142 after players experienced a number of issues during the game’s first few days on sale.

In an update to the game’s official forum, DICE said it was aware of issues where stats and awards weren’t properly registered, problems with PunkBuster anti-cheat technology and EA Master Server disconnects, and “will continue to update everyone on our status until these issues are resolved”.

“Last weekend we made updates that resolved the issues causing some awards or stats to not be properly awarded to players,” it said on the first point. “Unfortunately any stats or awards not received before this update can not be replaced.”

It also advised players to visit the PunkBuster website and go through the manual update procedure to sort out any lingering issues there, adding, “We are currently working with PunkBuster to resolve player issues and allow for a smoother experience and to eliminate server kick issues that are still affecting some players.”

Finally, “We have added additional enhancements to our server infrastructure to eliminate the majority of the disconnection problems. We will be putting forth every effort through the weekend to completely eliminate this issue for all our players.”

BF2142 Known Issues Update

New Item:

2B. All players show as Privates on your server, no unlocks available.

This item can be caused either by intermittant interruption of, overload of, or maintenance of the master server.
In some very rare cases, a security issue on the master server may be an issue.
If the problem is intermittant, it should clear up as soon as the IGN(Gamespy) Master server(s) recover.

Harold and Kumar 2 Becomes Official

Written by andy on Monday, October 30th, 2006 in General.

Surprisingly, one of the funniest comedies in the past few years (to me, at least) was Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. Sure, there were a bunch of stupid set pieces (the most memorable one involved Harold and Kumar riding a cheetah), but there’s no denying Neil Patrick Harris’ brilliant performance as, well, himself. Rumors of a sequel have been passed around the internet more times than a joint on April 20th (if you got that, then you know I’ve been around the block more than once), and today Production Weekly confirms the project is definitely a go.

John Cho (Harold) and Kal Penn (Kumar) have officially signed on to star in Harold and Kumar 2, with screenwriters Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (who penned the first flick) set to make their directorial debut on the sequel. Now, before there was word that a sequel would find the boys traveling across Amsterdam, however we’re not certain whether it will take place abroad or here in the States. PR describes the pic as a cross-country adventure that “follows the pot-smoking duo as they try to outrun authorities after being suspected as terrorists when they try to sneak a bong on board a flight to Amsterdam.” So, based on that description, it seems the boys never make it to Amsterdam, right? Regardless, I’m definitely looking forward to another adventure from these two — how about you? via Cinematical

Nyco Intercooler Responsible For X360 Deaths?

Written by andy on Monday, October 30th, 2006 in Gaming.

Over at Gameworld Network they have a write up on how the 3rd party intercooler by Nyko could be responsible for some of the dying Xbox360’s out there. There is hard evidence to support these claims, the article does goes into some examples of what has happened with a couple Xbox360’s and the response from Microsoft about them. EA Community Update: 10/27/06 (BF2142)

Written by andy on Sunday, October 29th, 2006 in Gaming.

Greetings Battlefield Soldiers,

Over the course of last week some players have experienced issues with stats & awards, punk buster, and master server disconnects. We wanted to update everyone on the current status for each of these points as we move into the weekend.

Stats & Awards: Last weekend we made updates that resolved the issues causing some awards or stats to not be properly awarded to players. We will be continuing to monitor player experience and the stat servers in order to make the proper adjustments to maintain the system. Unfortunately any stats or awards not received before this update can not be replaced.

PunkBuster: Those players who have experienced issues with the punk buster auto update should visit the punk buster site and follow their directions for manual updates. We are currently working with punk buster to resolve player issues and allow for a smoother experience and to eliminate the server kick issues that are still affecting some players.

EA Master Server Disconnects: We have added additional enhancements to our server infrastructure to eliminate the majority of the disconnection problems. We will be putting forth every effort through the weekend to completely eliminate this issue for all our players.

We will continue to update everyone on our status until these issues are resolved and no longer standing in the way of your enjoyment of Battlefield 2142. Have a great weekend and we will see you on the Battlefield.
