Trek XI Update

Written by andy on Saturday, October 21st, 2006 in Movies.

Star Trek XI — the prequel film that could bring big changes to the franchise — is still on the drawing board at the moment, but the movie could be given an official green light for production this winter. According to The Trek Movie Report, the eleventh Trek motion picture is likely to get the nod from Paramount in December or January. “Although it hasn’t been greenlit yet, it is as close as you get around here,” the site’s industry source told them. Paramount intends to make it one of their 2008 summer tentpole releases.

Additionally, producer Abrams and his team are already interviewing potential cast members. A first draft of the movie script is expected soon, and the story’s main characters apparently include Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and Scotty.

If all goes well, Trek XI could begin filming in the spring, with production lasting six months. All this is subject to change, so watch the headlines! via IGN

Firefox 2 vs. IE 7 test

Written by andy on Saturday, October 21st, 2006 in Software.

I saw over on Robert Scoble blog, he did a pretty high level test, but wasn’t able to complete it, so I thought I would put my gaming rig to the test and see what I could share:

before any browsers
FireFox
IE7

I did the same thing that Robert did and opened TechMeme up, and Ctrl-clicked on every link on the main part of TechMeme. That opened every link up into its own tab. Then I went to Windows Task Manager and looked at how much memory each took and took some screen shots. (I like pictures)

Gamespots Exclusive Gears of War video

Written by andy on Saturday, October 21st, 2006 in Gaming.

Thanks to Joystiq

Select Gamestop stores are hosting a special Gear of War event tonight after closing up shop. If you have the time to spend, you might want to think twice about it. First, they’re only showing video of the game, it won’t be playable — yes, we’re excited about it … but not that excited. Second, the giveaways are pretty weak: lanyards and pins. Where’s the free shirts or — even better — demo discs? Really, exclusive video content? Isn’t this what Xbox Live was made for?

Video is embedded after the break, in two parts. One of the exclusive footage and the other is a clip of CliffyB telling folks they won’t find that exclusive footage on the internet … you mean, this internet?
