WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Coming…Later

Written by andy on Wednesday, May 14th, 2008 in Gaming.

Vivendi released financial documents for the first half of 2008. The documents indicated that Wrath of the Lich King would be released in the second half of 2008 rather than in the first half. As a result, profits are down though subscribers are up almost 3/4 of a million.

Vivendi Games continues to make strong headway with Blizzard Entertainment, inc and World of Warcraft ®, adding 2 million incremental subscribers compared to end of March 2007; After reaching the 10-million-subscriber milestone at the end of 2007, World of Warcraft’s subscriber base grew to more than 10.7 million by the end of the first quarter of 2008.

A comparison of the first quarters of 2007 and 2008 performances is not representative because the first quarter of 2007 included the hugely successful release of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. Blizzard Entertainment’s second expansion, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2008. Consequently, Vivendi Games’ revenues for the first quarter of 2008 are 24.1% lower (-18.2% on a constant currency basis) when compared to the same period last year. Vivendi Games’ revenues was €221 million.

Written by andy on Wednesday, May 14th, 2008 in TV.

When Toshiba stopped making its HD-DVD players, the logical assumption was that consumers might finally start adopting a high-definition movie format, now that Blu-ray had been declared "the winner." Turns out, consumers’ logic was more focused on their pocketbook than their desire for 1080p movies and DTS Lossless Master Audio.

Big Bang Theory - Hands down worth watching

Written by andy on Wednesday, May 14th, 2008 in TV.

The Big Bang Theory - the story of two brainy best friends who could tell you anything you want to know about quantum physics — but when it comes to dealing with everyday life here on Earth, they’re clueless.

The Big Bang Theory is a comedy about brilliant physicists, Leonard and Sheldon, who are the kind of “beautiful minds” that understand how the universe works. But none of that genius helps them interact with people, especially women.

All this begins to change when a free-spirited beauty named Penny (a waitress for the Cheesecake Factory) moves in next door.

NCsoft announces new MMO ’starter packs

Written by andy on Wednesday, May 14th, 2008 in Gaming.

NCsoft has announced the release of "starter packs" - a new range of retail products for its major MMO franchise titles, including City of Heroes, City of Villains, Guild Wars and Lineage II.

These "starter packs" will be sold at retailers for GBP 1.99 and will provide a game and a two week subscription intended as an introduction to MMORPGs. Consumers who decide they want the full game can then return to the retailer and purchase the whole product.

"In an ever increasingly digitally orientated retail environment, encouraging players to return to retail is a win-win for both outlet and publisher."

A "starter pack" will also be released for Richard Garriott’s Tabula Rasa later this year.
