Free At Last!

Written by andy on Wednesday, July 30th, 2008 in Software.

It would seem, that some how.  Some ‘bad’ HTML code was getting in to my entries.  The end result, was that this blog was being blocked if you were using FireFox 3.0.

Last night, I went through the site with a pretty fine toothed comb, removed all the entries I could find and then submitted my site for review back to google.

The end result, is that the site is not longer blocked.

Howard the Duck is a HeroClix

Written by andy on Saturday, July 26th, 2008 in Comic Books.

Almost the very first comic book title that I really got into was the under appreciated Howard the Duck.  Now, the fine people of Wizkids has made him a ‘rare’ clix.

I do understand that the movie, was far from ‘good’, but it was Howard the Duck!  I voted for him when he ran for President.

Way to go Howie!

Brubaker’s ‘Angel of Death’ Online

Written by andy on Thursday, July 24th, 2008 in Comic Books.

Sony Picture’s Entertainment has announced a live action series, Angel of Death, written by top drawer comic scribe Ed Brubaker (Criminal, The Death of Captain America). The series will consist of ten 8- to 10-minute episodes and will debut one per week over a ten-week period on Sony’s online network Crackle.com in 2009. After the series appears on Crackle additional footage will be added to smooth out the continuity into a feature film-like form and then Angel of Death will be released on DVD.

Stuntwoman-turned-actress Zoe Bell (Death Proof, Double Dare) has been cast in the lead role in the series, an assassin working for a ruthless crime family. When she suffers a severe head wound she is haunted by her victims and sets about methodically dispatching the people who ordered the hits.

Production of original programming (both live action and animated) for the Internet is a fast-growing sector as studios and independent producers look for ways to monetize the Net’s huge audience. Budgeted at just over a million dollars, Angel of Death is pricy by the standards of Internet productions, but cheaper than many direct-to-DVD productions. In the business model for Angel of Death, which is the first of four to six such productions slated for 2009, Sony hopes to recoup some of the costs via online ad revenue at Cackle, but plans on recovering the bulk of its expenses (and generating profits) from its exploitation of the material on DVD (and paid downloads of the complete series).

Google’s Alternative to Wikipedia

Written by andy on Thursday, July 24th, 2008 in Software.

Google has finally released to the public their Knol reference tool to the public after a 7 month development process. Intended to be a sort of internet encyclopedia, Knol will be filled with articles written by experts in every possible type of field.

Sounds like Wikipedia, doesn’t it?

The major difference between Knol and Wikipedia is that Knol will require submitters to identify themselves. This means that readers of the Knol can then assess the credibility of the information through independent verification, before using it as a reference. Google will not screen submissions, but rely on search rankings to determine if an article is credible or not.

I think I want this..

Written by andy on Saturday, July 12th, 2008 in Gaming.

I have never really cared for these types of games, as they usually end up with me yelling at the tv screen.  Then someone ends up video taping it, then it becomes a video that is shared like this or this.

However; this looks amazing and after all it does have super heroes in it.

Sometimes..

I do not enjoy computers, okay; no biggie, I am A+ certified, MCP and almost got my MSCE , but that doesn’t mean really squat nowadays.

Because of this, it looks like I am going to have to do this again.

Ultimately, I think I am going to be using MS’s RMS at GamersCircle.

So, in California - currently (July 2008) we have about million fires burning like crazy.  This is bad, but then to top it off, the heat:
