GamersCircle Comics goes Dark

Written by andy on Friday, June 26th, 2009 in GamersCircle.

No, not what you are thinking.  We have a power outage today 6/26/2009.  Yes, I got a little stressed out, but not that we were not prepared for it.

The APC battery backup kicked in and everything thing that I need to ‘keep the business’ running was on. (phone, dsl modem, router and phone)

However; the problem that we ran into was that the UPS, was about 6 years old and the battery only lasted about an hour.  So, I had to zip home and get a newer more up to date one that I have plugged into my gaming rig.

The power is up now and I will soon be getting a more up to date UPS for the shop.  Something that might be able to hold a 2-3 hour charge.

Pre-Orders for Anti-Zombieland?

Written by andy on Saturday, June 20th, 2009 in Movies.

It has been a while since there was a movie that touched on the subject matter.  In the all things zombie category, Apple.com’s Trailer page has posted the exclusive trailer for Woody Harrelson’s upcoming comedy/zombie movie, Zombieland.

Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) has made a habit of running from what scares him. Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) doesn’t have fears. If he did, he’d kick their ever-living ass. In a world overrun by zombies, these two are perfectly evolved survivors. But now, they’re about to stare down the most terrifying prospect of all: each other.

Anyone want to take pre-orders on this?

New Cell Phone

Written by andy on Thursday, June 18th, 2009 in Hardware.

I will be the first one to admit it.  I dig gadgets, but not so much as I used to.  Honest!  I always used to be picking up the gizmo that did this or the doohickey that did that.  Now for the most parts it is all about the cell phones!

I got the iPhone on opening days 6/30/2007

What I didn’t like the about the iPhone was that it was on the low as molasses “Edge” network, so I switched to the AT&T Tilt.  This was a windows device and I liked everything about this phone.  I could even use it as a portable boat anchor too.  Yes, it was a little to heavy for me.

I stuck it out with the the Tilt until about November 2008, the fear that I might knock myself out with it was starting to keep me up at night.  I wanted to see what all the hype was about the CrackBerries.  I could see how people get hooked, but I didn’t like that the email was always on and you were forced into a data plan because of it.

About 4 month later, I went back to my favorite makers of cell phones; Sony Ericsson.  The down side of this phone is that when I need the web, it really isn’t there, only the ‘text’ version and sometimes I need the real web and not the watered down version, I also wanted to be able to access my email too, but it wasn’t that accessible.  So

As of today 6/18/2009  (Almost 2 years from when I got the iPhone) I am now sporting a Palm Pre … stay tuned!

Risk – 2008/Reinvention

Written by andy on Sunday, June 14th, 2009 in Gaming.

Since I played risk for the very first time, I am always enjoyed a good game of risk. (dang dice are always against me)  At the shop yesterday, Dan, Rob, Rich and I sat down and played the latest version of risk.

This reinvention of Risk adds in Objectives.

Instead of conquering the world you can play optionally to capture 3 objectives, of which there are a total of eight possible,  4 major (hard), 4 minor (easier).  In addition to the objectives, there are also rewards that go along with them.

Rewards range from bonus attack or defense die to extra troops per turn, to additional maneuvers.  Each of the rewards are extremely useful, some are like the hand of god.

Also in this version are 15 cities. Each game you shuffle out 15 cards and place the cities on the countries of the cards. This also adds a uniqueness to every game. Cities make a country worth more as much when counting up territories to determine the number of troops you get on your turn.

We played two games, one with the basic rules where the board was pre-set for use and the 2nd was in common room mode.  Each of which it is basically the same game of risk that I remember, but the first player to get 3 objectives wins.
